Academic Assistance

Cal Coast Academy fosters student achievement by offering a full compliment of support programs to ensure that all students are afforded the individualized assistance they need to reach their full learning potential. All of our before, during, and after school academic support options are available for tailoring and customizing to meet the specific needs of our students and their families. Cal Coast Academy is largely committed to promoting a culture of learning whereby each student is unconditionally supported. Studies have shown that intermediate and long-term successes of students enrolled in before and after school programs acquire improved grades, work habits, school attendance, social skills, interpersonal behaviors, and self-efficacy.

ASSIST: This Monday through Friday, teacher-directed, two-hour, After School Study & Instruction that Supports Teaching program is available to all of our Cal Coast Academy students. Organizational and study skills are integrated into the after school study time as teachers answer questions and expose students to a review of any concept(s) needing clarification. Students also receive assistance with time-management skills and test preparation.

One on One and Two-on-One Courses: Cal Coast Academy offers both a one-on-one and a two-on-one class format for any student, in any course. These classes may either be scheduled for a period within our school day or during after school hours. Our one-on-one and two-on-one classes are designed to provide our students with alternatives, flexibility with school scheduling, as well as make it possible for our students to earn their high school credits beyond the regular, bell-scheduled day. These personalized courses are ideal for students who desire early graduation, students who compete on the National and International levels, students who participate in extra-curricular activities, and students in need of make-up courses.

"Three years ago our 14-year-old daughter was beginning ninth grade with a math phobia. She would tell anyone that asked that she was "dumb" when it came to math, hated math and couldn't understand a thing a bout it. At home when it was time for math homework you could watch as her body would become stiff as a board as she repeatedly said she didn't understand the questions and invariably within a few minutes she would be in tears. We were lost. After finding Cal Coast Academy, Jan Dunning spent several meetings with us answering our questions and concerns about the math program. For the past three years we have watched Blaire Cristina grow in her understanding, ability and confidence to handle math. She doesn't hesitate to start math homework and her demeanor has taken 180 turn. We have become firm believers in your program and are very grateful that we made the right decision to enroll her into the math program at Cal Coast Academy. Our thanks go to Jan Dunning, the Cal Coast Academy program, as well as the faculty & staff members. You all are doing a wonderful job where this community still has a gaping need in its educational system!" - Mr. Vince and Mrs. Carol Camarda

Tutoring: Cal Coast Academy provides before and/or after school tutoring for all students, in all academic subjects. Tutoring sessions are setup entirely around the student's availability and can either be met on our campus, at an alternative location suitable for learning, or within the student's home. Cal Coast Academy recommends a minimum of two, one-hour sessions per week. All of our tutoring lessons are conducted on a one-to-one basis and students meet with the same instructor every time.

"Our daughter, Jenna Ryon, has been tutored at Cal Coast Academy since the beginning of the school year. Jenna has had always excelled in math during her elementary years but we wanted her to have supplemental math instruction in preparation for entering the Cal Coast Academy Math Program. The individual tutoring she has received has advanced her skills significantly." - Mr. Roger and Mrs. Andrea Ryon

Edline: Students, parents, faculty, and staff are interconnected through our Internet-based Edline program. Accessible 24-hours a day, Edline enables our Cal Coast Academy community to stay abreast of class and homework assignments, students grades and attendance, and of school and community events. Edline has proven to be an invaluable tool, promoting student responsibility, accountability, resourcefulness, and schoolwide connectivity.
